Nisi Chrysi (Golden Island) is a small uninhabited island south of Ierapetra, in the open Libyan Sea. Accessible only by boat from Ierapetra, this protected zone island has a unique cedar forest and golden sand beaches with shells.
Exposed to all winds without protection, the island receives the Meltemi directly from N/NNE with raw unattenuated force. This is an extreme adventure spot, only for experts with boat support.
Expedition spot requiring boat support. No kite infrastructure on the island. Only sail with boat support allowing retrieval in case of problems. Launching from sand beaches.
Protected zone – respect environmental regulations. Shell collecting is prohibited.
Open sea around the island. Formed chop and Libyan Sea waves. Sandy bottom with protected coral reefs. Exceptional turquoise water. Open sea conditions.

Uninhabited island accessible only by boat-taxi from Ierapetra (crossing ~30 minutes). Excursion schedule in season. No infrastructure on the island – bring water, food and sun protection.
EXTREME DANGER: isolated island in the Libyan Sea. No rescue on site. Wind pushes south (Africa). Boat support MANDATORY. Strong current around the island. Protected reefs not to be damaged.
Protected zone with strict regulations. Kiting may be restricted or prohibited – check in Ierapetra before departing. Limited phone signal.
Unfiltered Meltemi from N/NNE. The low island offers no protection – wind crosses it entirely. Strength often 20-30+ knots in summer after acceleration through the Ierapetra isthmus. Gusts are less pronounced than on land (no katabatic effect) but wind is very sustained.
Possibility of NE/NW wind depending on weather pattern. High reliability in summer.
