Prasonisi is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular kitesurf/windsurf/wing spots in Rhodes and throughout the Mediterranean. Located at the southwestern tip of the island, this exceptional site offers a breathtaking natural setting with its crystal-clear waters and preserved wild landscapes.
The spot is characterized by a large protected bay that forms a perfect natural lagoon for kitesurfing. The uniqueness of Prasonisi lies in its special geography: a peninsula connected to the coast by a strip of fine sand that creates two distinct sailing areas depending on weather conditions. On the windward side, you'll have a body of water with onshore wind, waves, and chop, while on the leeward side you'll have a mirror-like spot with flat water, but with wind pushing offshore in case of problems.
The water is an incomparable turquoise blue, with pleasant temperatures from May to October. The gently sloping sandy bottom and absence of obstacles make it an ideal spot for all levels, from beginners to experienced riders. The wild beauty of the landscape, with its rocky cliffs and Mediterranean vegetation, adds a magical dimension to each session.
The local infrastructure offers several kitesurf, windsurf and wingsurf schools, equipment rental centers and a few typical taverns where you can enjoy Cretan cuisine after an intensive session. The atmosphere is relaxed and international, attracting kitesurfers from around the world.
Open all year round
Prasonisi benefits from exceptional wind conditions that make it a destination of choice for kitesurfing, particularly appreciated for its regularity and reliability.
The spot is mainly powered by the Meltemi, the characteristic thermal wind of the Aegean Sea. This north to northwest wind blows with remarkable regularity from June to September, offering almost guaranteed conditions during the high season.
Characteristics of the Meltemi:
Direction: North to Northwest (320° to 10°)
Strength: 15 to 25 knots on average, with peaks up to 30 knots
Schedule: Generally rises around 11am-12pm, peaks in mid-afternoon (2pm-5pm)
Regularity: 80% of days in July-August
