Anavissos is a spot in southern Attica, on the east coast of the Sounion peninsula, facing the Saronic Gulf and the Aegean Sea. Further from Athens than the Riviera spots (about 50 km), Anavissos offers a less urban setting and more open water.
Anavissos's geographical position at the junction of the Saronic Gulf and open Aegean waters gives it more direct NE (Meltemi) exposure than the south coast Athens spots. The SE/E thermal also develops well thanks to the SE-facing coastline.
The spot works from May to October. In Meltemi (NE), ideal conditions with side-onshore wind and moderately choppy water. In thermal (SE/E), gentler afternoon conditions. More wind-reliable than the south coast of Athens thanks to open Aegean proximity. Good alternative when the Riviera is too calm.
More open water than the Riviera coast. In Meltemi, chop of 30-60cm with possible waves. In thermal, flatter conditions. Sandy bottom with progressive depth. Cleaner, clearer water than Athens. Temperature: 22-26°C in summer.

Parking along the coastal road and on areas near the beach. Anavissos is a small beach resort less crowded than the Athenian Riviera. Restaurants and tavernas on the waterfront. Access via the coastal road from Athens (about 1 hour) or from Lavrio/Sounion.
Strong currents near Cape Sounion to the south. More open water than the Riviera — no island protection from the gulf. In strong Meltemi, demanding conditions with significant chop. Some rocks on the beach edges. Less lifeguard coverage than Athenian Riviera beaches.
Dual wind regime: the NE Meltemi arrives side-onshore on this SE-facing coast, offering the best conditions. SE/E thermal develops in the afternoon when the Meltemi is weak. Anavissos is often windier than the Athenian Riviera spots thanks to its more exposed Aegean position.
Typical strength: 12-22 knots in Meltemi, 10-16 knots thermal. Wind season extends from May to October.
