Mastichari is the main kitesurfing spot on the north coast of Kos, facing Kalymnos island. This small fishing port benefits from direct exposure to the northern Meltemi with a Venturi effect between Kos and Kalymnos that accelerates the wind. The sandy beach west of the port offers shallow water over a large area, ideal for learning. One of the most reliable spots on Kos for wind.
Works with direct northern Meltemi. Riding area west of the port with shallow water for 50-100m, ideal for beginners. Watch for the Kalymnos ferry zone.
Aegean Sea between Kos and Kalymnos, 22-26°C. 2mm shorty or lycra. Sandy bottom, very shallow water. Moderate to strong chop depending on Meltemi.

Kos-Kalymnos ferry zone must be avoided. Meltemi can reach 35 knots in gusts. Short chop when wind is strong. Strong sun. Sea urchins possible.
N/NNW Meltemi onshore to side-onshore, strengthened by the Venturi effect between Kos and Kalymnos. Typical 18-28 knots, gusts to 35 knots. Wind building around 11am-noon, peaking in afternoon. Season from mid-June to mid-September.
