St. Peter-Ording (SPO) is the "kiteboarding capital" of Germany and one of Europe's most iconic spots. A 12km long, 2km wide sandy beach on the Eiderstedt peninsula — accessible by car directly onto the beach. 4 main zones: Hauptstrand (waves/freeride), FKK-Strand (similar, less crowded), Südstrand (flatwater lagoon, ideal for freestyle), and Böhl (beginners, vast shallow area). SPO hosted the Kitesurf World Cup for over a decade.
Best winds: SW, W, NW, E. Season: April–November (year-round for locals). Wetsuit required — water rarely above 18°C. Nearest airport: Hamburg (1.5–2h drive). More info: Kitesurf The World – Germany
Kite Power Shop (main kite shop & school at SPO)
Multiple IKO/VDWS certified schools present on the beach
Beginner
Open all year round
Watch tides carefully — at low tide, strong offshore currents can develop. With southerly winds, northerly currents make it hard to stay upwind. Offshore sandbars. Parking on the beach is possible but check tide before driving on sand — the parking area can flood at high tide. Kiteleash strongly recommended.
