Veillon at Talmont-Saint-Hilaire is a kitesurf spot with two completely different faces either side of a massive dune. Ocean side: beautiful waves, huge dedicated launching area, plenty of space to ride — manage the waves carefully. Estuary side: completely flat, shallow except in channels, difficult for foil. The estuary side is only navigable around high tide. School of kite uses the estuary side — be reasonable and find your zone. You can cross between both sides while riding but watch for shallow water and tidal currents. 5-10 min walk from the car park past the bathing zone to reach the kite area. FFVL-labelled spot.
Park on the north side (Avenue de la Plage). Walk 5-10 minutes past the bathing zone to reach the kite area. Ocean side: northwest to southwest wind — waves and swell. Estuary side: west to southwest wind, flat water, navigable around high tide only. In summer at low tide, the bathing zone migrates onto the kite area — kite zone becomes reduced. Respect surf school and bathers as priority. Launch area at the end of the beach. Watch for rocky areas that appeared after recent storms.
Two completely different faces: ocean side has waves and swell from northwest to southwest wind, very large launch area. Estuary side is completely flat with very shallow water except in channels — not suitable for foil close to shore. Rocky areas appeared after recent storms on the leeward side — assess on arrival. Tidal currents between the two sides. Estuary side only navigable around high tide.

Open year-round. In summer at low tide: the bathing safety zone (SNSM) extends over the kite zone — riding space is reduced. Surf school and bathers have priority. Launch from the end of the beach only. Estuary side: navigable around high tide only. Off-season: free access. Best season: April to October.
Northwest to south for the ocean side — classic Atlantic beach conditions. West to southwest is ideal for the flat estuary side. The dune provides wind shadow on the estuary side in certain angles. Best wind: northwest to southwest. The beach orientation gives good cross-onshore conditions in most southwest to northwest wind scenarios.
