Les Dunes de Sainte-Marguerite (Landéda) are without doubt the most beautiful and most renowned kitesurf spots in north Finistère. White sand, turquoise water with Caribbean shades, islets, the imposing Île Vierge lighthouse (tallest in Europe) as backdrop — a unique French landscape.
The spot offers two distinct environments: a natural lagoon ("la bassine") that forms at mid to high tide — navigable from 5.50m water height (2 hours before and after high tide), ideal with coefficients between 40 and 80. At high coefficients (above 95) the lagoon current can be strong when it empties — plan accordingly. Outside the tidal lagoon window, the rest of the beach is perfectly navigable.
At low tide the sea retreats up to 800m — great flat zones to explore (follow the locals). Large, uncrowded even in summer. Foiling possible at low tide between islets. Some walking required at very low tide to reach depth.
FFVL labelled. AvelWest and Rêve O Kite schools on site.
AvelWest — kitesurf school Finistère Nord, Sainte-Marguerite is their flagship spot. Rêve O Kite — kitesurf school based at Sainte-Marguerite/Landéda. FFVL certified schools present on site. Lifeguards (sauveteurs) on site in summer — very helpful, some kite/wing riders themselves.
Main car park GPS: 48.59481, -4.60585. Multiple car parks within 200m of the beaches. Toilets available. The spot extends well beyond the main beach — use northern beaches (own car park) to spread out. Schools use the western section in summer. Don't hesitate to use the space when the fleet concentrates at the west end.
Lagoon ("la bassine") forms at mid to high tide — flat, sheltered, Caribbean-coloured water. Ideal coefficients 40–80. At very high coefficient (above 95), lagoon creates strong current when emptying. Outside lagoon window: flat zones at low tide as the sea retreats up to 800m. Some rocks near islets. Oyster parks appear at low tide. S wind can be gusty.

Car park right at the spot, toilets available. Easy access, short walk at low tide. Possibility to inflate your kite on the grass, then connect bar at the water's edge. Northern beach has its own car park. GPS main parking: 48.59481, -4.60585.
Bathing zone on the left from 15 June to 15 September — navigation strictly forbidden within the yellow buoys. Rocks near the islets — keep clear when jumping or going fast. At very high coefficient (above 95): strong current when the lagoon empties — return to shore can be difficult in light wind. Oyster parks visible at low tide. Seaweed (goémon) risk in lines at the water's edge.
Navigable from S to NNE, ideal orientations W and NNW. By South, wind is generally gusty. NE thermal in spring gives memorable sessions. Summer (Jul-Aug): wind often 8–15kt — foil and light kite recommended. Stable, regular wind linked to Celtic Sea depressions. Over 200 navigable days per year.
