Kitesurf, wingfoil and windsurf spot on Lac d'Orient (Forêt d'Orient lake) at Mesnil-Saint-Père, Aube (10), 1h30 from Paris. This 2,400 ha artificial lake (8 km × 4 km) is entirely dedicated to non-motorised water sports within the Forêt d'Orient Regional Natural Park. Kite access at the Mesnil-Saint-Père beach (easy launch, between the club fence and Le Calypso restaurant) or the Divers' Slipway (difficult, left of the port dyke). Navigation fees payable at the Capitainerie (Maison des Lacs). FFVL licence and Flysurf10 membership strongly advised.
Intermediate
Parking at the capitainerie or opposite the AWA beach. In good weather, the beach-side parking can fill up. Rigging is on grass in both cases.
Navigation permitted from first weekend of March to third weekend of October. Beach spots are off-limits for kite between 15 June and 15 September and on busy public holidays. At the Divers' Slipway: difficult spot, upwind ability mandatory, many trees dangerous for the kite, narrow launch at high water. Infrastructure protection zone prohibited (yellow buoys). Lac du Temple is fully prohibited. Lac Amance is off-limits for sail sports.
All directions are theoretically rideable given the lake's size. However: at the Divers' Slipway, only North-East / North / NNW is permitted — never ride South-West, South or South-East (port dyke downwind). On the main beach, West to North-East sectors are most comfortable. Wind can be irregular, especially from the North. Lake level is critical: below 129.50 m NGF, navigation is not possible.
