Saint-Jean-du-Doigt beach opens onto the Baie de Sainte-Barbe, 1km from Plougasnou village, facing NNW. The second of Plougasnou's three spots, between Terenez (south) and Primel-Trégastel (north) — the two beaches are visible from each other and easily connected downwind. Relatively wild setting with little urbanisation. Renowned windsurfing spot when Atlantic depressions send N-NE swell into the Baie de Lannion. At low tide, the foreshore reveals a wide sandy area ideal for setup and warm-up.
No permanent kite/wind club on site. No supervised swimming — no restrictions year-round. Info: onekite.com/topic/15771 (summer 2024 field report).
Intermediate
Open all year round
Parking along the road bordering the sea wall (parapet + rock barrier) and at car parks on both sides of the beach. No size/height restriction.
Shingle beach at high tide — reduced space, waves breaking close to shore in strong wind. Submerged rocks at high tide on the right side of the beach — do not approach. Strong current along the beach. A few swimmers in summer, often near the water's edge. At low tide: wide sand exposed, easy setup, but rocks visible on the flanks.
Dominant summer wind (WNW to N) allows easy navigation in the bay, often light (8-15kt) but strengthening offshore. Wind in side configuration (too far W or E) disrupted by surrounding terrain. Access to the full Baie de Lannion when conditions allow — can connect to Primel (NW) or Terenez (S).
