Overview

Lachanau / Lac Hourtin is a kitesurf spot on Lac d'Hourtin-Carcans (Gironde), the largest natural lake in France. This freshwater lake in the Landes forest catches winds from North, South-West, West, West-North-West and North-West — a wide arc that makes it very wind-reliable.

Flat freshwater lake with no tidal constraints. The vast open water surface (60km²) allows long downwind runs. Shared with sailboats, swimmers and other water sports in summer. A spectacular setting in the heart of the Landes forest nature reserve.
