Technical details of Le Rohu - Saint-Pierre-Quiberon spot

Spot currently open :-)
Spot functioning

Car park with 2m height barrier (vans ok), additional spaces outside for campervans — do not block nearby house gates. In summer a designated kite channel is marked — use it. Catamarans return all at once at end of sessions — time your water entry carefully. Wingfoilers are very numerous — zigzag carefully. Ask for help landing only from people who know how — accepting help from unknowing bystanders can be dangerous.

Spot opening date

All year round

Required level

Intermediate

On the water

Sheltered bay side of Quiberon — flat water, no ocean swell. Sandy bottom. The channel leads quickly to open water. At low tide the beach is wider but slightly shallower near shore. East wind (rare) creates a pushback toward rocks to the west/southwest — in that case head to Kerver or Landrezac instead.

Parking

A fairly large parking lot limited to 2m height (vans ok), for campervans there are spaces outside depending on how busy it is. Do not block the gates of surrounding houses.

Wind specificities

West to northwest is the main window — winds arrive from the north following the Quiberon coastline then turn. Very stable sea breeze. East wind (rare) is dangerous — rocks to west/southwest are a hazard at low tide. Spot de repli: Landrezac.

Hazards

- The catamarans! They are tall, they generally ALL arrive at the same time (end of a time slot, end of a lesson), you need to time your launch well.

- Wingfoilers are also very numerous and quite often you have to zigzag around them (given the current popularity of this sport).

- The channel is relatively narrow at the beginning then widens, and in 30 seconds you're in open sea and there it's a dream.

- Watch out for swimmers and their zone as usual. Make sure to ask people if they know how to land a kite, sometimes they offer to help (which is nice) but it can be dangerous.
