Richelieu — Cap d'Agde. THE wave spot of the Hérault. Legendary for beautiful wave sessions by Marin SE — probably the best waves in the region. Protected by the harbour wall to the east and Fort Brescou offshore, swell enters between the two forming clean, well-spaced waves.
Works by S, SE and W winds. Tramontane NW also rideable (side-offshore, gusty near shore but flat water further out). By W wind: flat water against the groynes — perfect freestyle. Large beach (100+ m wide), huge harbour parking.
⚠️ KITE FORBIDDEN 15 June - 15 September. Navigation channel along breakwater allows access beyond 300 m for wing/windsurf during beach surveillance.
TopKite: school at eastern end of Plage Richelieu. Beginner to advanced, boat support, equipment rental.
Kite Family: school at Le Grau d'Agde. All levels, boat support.
ThauKite: regional association, spot information.

By W wind: flat water against groynes — perfect freestyle.
By Tramontane NW: flat but gusty near shore. Epic conditions further offshore. Side-offshore, Fort Brescou provides protection.
Sandy bottom. Groynes/breakwaters present.

KITE FORBIDDEN 15 June - 15 September. Wing and windsurf: navigation channel access beyond 300 m when lifeguards present. Best season: autumn/winter SE storms — biggest waves. Spring Tramontane also good. Parking du port (height barrier 2.25 m, paid in summer). Schools operate with boat support year-round.
Large harbour car park — direct beach access. Height barrier 2.25 m. Paid in summer. Easy equipment change by the car. Summer: beach bars/paillotes take up space. Multiple car parks at both ends of Plage Richelieu. Centre Nautique at eastern end.
⚠️ KITE FORBIDDEN 15 June - 15 September on Richelieu beach (some tolerance at season edges if no swimmers).
Harbour wall (digue du port): dangerous — currents between Fort Brescou and harbour. Do not get pushed onto the wall.
Tramontane NW: side-offshore, gusty near shore due to buildings. Jetty and Fort Brescou downwind provide some protection. Not recommended for beginners.
Very crowded: 30+ riders common on weekends. If too busy, move west along the beach.
Groynes/breakwaters: present along beach — keep clear.
Strong SE days: powerful waves, strong currents near Fort Brescou. Can become very intense.
Marin (SE/E): THE wind for Richelieu. Creates the best waves in the region. Regular and can be very strong. Wind pushes back to beach in case of problems. Autumn/winter depressions — best quality.
West (W): longer fetch, bigger waves. Flat against groynes for freestyle. Less frequent.
Tramontane (NW/N): side-offshore. Gusty near shore (buildings disturb). Flat water, rideable for advanced. Jetty and Fort Brescou downwind.
Thermal (S): summer, lighter. Small waves. Navigate at Grau d'Agde or Marseillan.
