Saint-Michel-en-Grève is an exceptional kite and wingfoil spot in the Côtes d'Armor — a vast 3km sandy beach set between Trébeurden and Locquirec, in the sheltered Baie de Plestin-les-Grèves. All wind directions work thanks to the bay geometry. No rocks in the riding area, no breaking waves — ideal for learning and freeride at all levels. At low tide, the sea retreats up to 3km, offering a uniquely wide flat water area (standing depth). Spectacular scenery: historic "Croix de Mi-Lieue" cross planted in the middle of the beach, maritime cemetery, church overlooking the shore.
Kite's Cool (kitescool.fr) — kite and wingfoil school based directly on the beach, open March to November. Individual radio link for students. Contact: Renaud (moniteur diplômé). Also: École Kitesurf Bretagne (ecolekitesurfbretagne.com) — itinerant school using this spot.
From Lannion: direction Locquirec, then Saint-Michel-en-Grève (15 min). Or from Morlaix: direction Plestin-les-Grèves. Kite's Cool school and changing rooms based directly on the beach facing the spot. At low tide: the sea can retreat more than 3km — factor in a long walk to the water, but extraordinary flat water conditions once there. Best conditions: mid to high tide. Summer (July-August): wind often light (8-15kt) — foil or large kite recommended.
Open all year round
Beginner
Always flat — sheltered bay, no swell. Sandy bottom, shallow over large distances at low tide. No rocks in the riding area. Light waves possible at high tide with NW wind but nothing significant. Ideal for foiling.
All wind directions work in the bay — no restrictive orientation. In summer (July-August): predominantly NW-W, often light at 8-15kt — Kite's Cool school recommends foil or light wind equipment. Spring thermal NE also possible. Depression winds (autumn/spring) stronger and more consistent. Small non-powerful waves in NW wind — good for wave beginners.
Dogs forbidden May 1 – September 30 (zone between Toul Ar Vilin and Roscoat car park, 400m width). Swimmers in summer — coordinate with lifeguards. At low tide: very wide beach (sea retreats up to 3km!) — long walk to riding depth. Light onshore summer wind — foil or light wind kite recommended in July-August.
