Kitesurf spot on Plage du Boucanet, between La Grande-Motte and Le Grau-du-Roi (30), on the Mediterranean coast of the Gard. The beach is bordered by rocky groynes but long enough for riders. Flat water zone under the groyne for freestyle, nice waves further down the beach in strong Westerly. Downwind run possible all the way to Le Grau-du-Roi. Parking directly in front of the beach. 2m height restriction for vehicles. Official kite zone marked by buoys (Apr 15–Oct 15). School on site: Club 30 Kite. Wing foil also practiced.
Intermediate
Open all year round
Rocky groynes along the beach — do not drift into them in strong Tramontane. Prefer the left (south) side of the beach. Late in the day, NW wind can shift to N and become turbulent or die completely — be prepared. 2m height restriction for vehicle access. Swimmers present in summer.
West is the prime direction — clean, consistent wind with nice waves. The rare SW gives flat water and strong wind. When NW shifts toward North in the late afternoon, the wind becomes very gusty with lulls — pack up and head to Port Camargue (15 min). Strictly avoid N, NE, E and SE which are turbulent and push offshore.
