Collignon (commune of Tourlaville) is the reference flat water spot in Cherbourg's harbour, located on the eastern side of the main harbour breakwater. The breakwater provides exceptional shelter from swells and chop even in strong conditions, making Collignon one of the flattest spots in the whole region — ideal for freestyle and learning.
The spot is divided by the breakwater: inside (SW side) = flat water, usable around mid to high tide. Outside (NE side) = waves with NE or strong N wind, and freeride with NW. Works from W to NE. Complements Jonville (Pointe de Saire) perfectly — when one is too choppy, the other often provides the solution. Tidal: requires mid to high tide inside the harbour to have enough water.
CNPS — Club Nautique de la Pointe de Saire (Jonville/Réville) — covers all Val de Saire spots (Collignon, Barfleur, Pointe de Saire, Quinéville, Morsalines, etc.). Security boat, safety briefings, community. cnps-jonville.com

Spot divided by the Cherbourg harbour breakwater. Outside the breakwater (NE side), watch out for rocks in the surf zone by NE wind — nearly on-shore. NE wind: current can be important at the breakwater end. Outside: attention to the current at large tidal coefficients. W wind: progressive wind shadow as you go down towards Le Becquet — risk of running out of wind and being stranded.
Inside the breakwater (flat side): works from NW to NE. Exceptional flat water, even in strong wind — ideal for freestyle and progression. NE is the preferred direction inside the harbour. Outside the breakwater: W to NW generates nice waves toward Le Becquet. NE outside: almost on-shore — caution with nearby rocks. W wind outside: progressive wind shadow as you move away from the breakwater.
