Spot de Kervel Beach - Plomodiern

Kervel Beach - Plomodiern

Kervel Beach - Plomodiern

Overview

Kervel is the reference kitesurf spot on the southern shore of the Baie de Douarnenez, on the commune of Plonévez-Porzay. A wide sandy beach facing northwest, it is the home of the Grand Prix Guyader and the main teaching spot for Kitesardin school. Ideal for beginners and lessons in NW to N wind, with stunning views over Douarnenez.

Wind can be irregular in pure North. In SW and N wind, waves form if W/NW swell is running — cleaner than Pentrez. In W wind, pure freeride spot. In summer, beach is busy with campers from the nearby Campéole Trezmalaouen campsite.

Wind specificities

Spot exposed to NW-N, southern shore of the Baie de Douarnenez. Best conditions:

  • NW to N: side-onshore — perfect school and freeride conditions, 12–20kt.
  • SW: best direction for waves — clean waves if W swell running.
  • W: onshore — freeride spot, accessible waves.

Wind often more irregular than on the north shore, especially in pure North. NW thermal reliable May–September in the afternoon.

Hazards

Do not cross dune fences (ganivelles) — protected dune area. Launch from car park forbidden.

In winter with heavy swell: low tide very choppy, prefer mid to high tide. Beach very busy in summer with holidaymakers.
