Overview

Wave spot of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer — west of the port, perfect playground for getting into waves and strapless surfing. Ideally located for SE wind (Marin) which brings a nice lateral swell. Beautiful waves roll for several kilometers along the coast. In storms, swell can reach 3m offshore. Also works with W (onshore) and the strong easterly gusts frequent in spring. Few people at this spot — relaxed atmosphere. With a bit of luck, you'll meet local rider Hervé Bourré and his big aerial 360s in surf kite!

Spot functioning
Access: village of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, facing the sea. Off-season: launch directly to the right of the port. In season: zone moved a bit further down to the right (westward direction). Mainly a thermal (S) and easterly gust (SE/E) spot, regularly present in spring. Also works with W. In SE: reference wave spot — lateral swell, ideal for strapless surfing.

Port parking lot of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Easy access from the village center.
Wind specificities
SE Marin: THE reference wind — nice lateral swell, waves rolling for kilometers. Can reach 3m offshore in storms. Ideal for strapless surfing. E/ENE: strong easterly gusts frequent in spring, beautiful waves. W: works well, onshore, wave sessions. S/SW Thermal: calmer conditions, summer breeze. N/NW/NE: doesn't work on the west side of the port — go to the east beach (speed) or Beauduc for Mistral.
Hazards
Beach not very large but sufficient for rigging and landing. In strong SE (storm): swell can reach 3m offshore — demanding conditions. In season: kite zone moved a bit further down to the right (not directly to the right of the port). Watch out for tourists/swimmers. Kitesurfing prohibited on the rest of the municipality — respect the designated zones.
