Les Roquilles / "Destroy Beach" — near the port of Carnon, on the west side of the breakwater. To find it: follow the dozens of catamarans parked on the grass! A prime wave riding spot in Carnon, regularly packed as soon as the SE Marin wind picks up — superb waves break along the breakwater. Nicknamed "Destroy Beach" by locals for its sometimes chaotic waves. Less crowded than La Grande-Motte, excellent off-season with SE wind. KITESURFING PROHIBITED IN SUMMER — during the summer season, head to Petit Travers (74) or Grand Travers instead.
YC Mauguio-Carnon (Yacht Club): Quai Eric Tabarly, Carnon-Plage. Axel'Air: kitesurf/wingfoil school in Carnon — personalized lessons for all levels.
Spot functioning
Wide and large beach, enough space to rig several kites. Parking just a few meters from the beach — very easy access. In the Mistral influence zone, combined with SW thermals = wide wind window. Works with SW (thermal + waves) and SE (Marin, powerful waves). In strong SE, the shore break becomes imposing — "Destroy Beach." Carnon is in the Mistral (N/NE) influence zone but it's offshore here — safety boat required.

Wind specificities
SE Marin: THE reference wind here — onshore, brings superb waves along the breakwater. Can be powerful and chaotic ("Destroy Beach"). Destructive shore break in heavy weather. SW Thermal: summer breeze, calmer conditions. Beautiful regular waves in true SW. W: works well, side-onshore. N/NE Mistral: in the Mistral influence zone (unlike western spots like Villeneuve) but offshore — do not sail without safety. NW Tramontane: also offshore here.
Hazards
KITESURFING PROHIBITED IN SUMMER (June 15 – September 15 depending on the year, July-August minimum) — head to Petit Travers (74) or Grand Travers instead. Imposing shore break in strong SE — locals nicknamed it "Destroy Beach" for its chaotic waves. Beware of buildings along the beach: they create significant wind shadows, surprises during takeoff/landing. Port breakwater nearby: fishermen. Very crowded on the water when it's windy.
