The Pointe de Chassiron is the northernmost tip of the Ile d'Oléron, marked by the iconic Chassiron lighthouse (1836). The exposed headland creates strong wind acceleration effects and gives access to both the ocean coast (west) and the more sheltered side (east). An unforgettable setting — powerful conditions for experienced riders who can manage strong tidal currents and variable swell. One of the most spectacular kite spots on the French Atlantic coast.
Choose your launch beach based on wind direction — the west beach in southwest to northwest wind, the east beach in northeast wind. Identify rocky areas before launching — some sections near the point are hazardous. Check the tide table before going — currents are much stronger at spring tides. Self-organised spot. The lighthouse car park is a tourist site — busy in summer.
West coast: Atlantic swell 0.5 to 2m+ with tidal currents. Rocky reef sections near the point. East coast: flat to choppy sheltered water, sandy bottom. Around the tip itself: powerful and confused sea state when wind opposes tidal current — expert conditions. Water very clear in both sides.

Open all year round
Open year-round. Best season: May to October. Southwest to northwest winds most reliable spring and autumn. The Chassiron lighthouse is open to visitors (views from the top over both coasts). Very busy tourist site July-August — early morning sessions recommended.
Exposed cape — very strong tidal currents around the tip, particularly at spring tides. Rocky areas near the Chassiron point — identify safe launch zones before entering the water. Wind can accelerate significantly around the headland and be gusty. No rescue services. Never ride alone. The lighthouse area is very busy with tourists in summer.
The headland creates significant wind acceleration — a 15-knot breeze in the open can become 20-25 knots at the point itself. Southwest to northwest winds are dominant. The east coast receives northeast winds well. When wind and tidal current oppose each other, sea state becomes very chaotic around the tip — avoid these conditions unless very experienced. The wide open Atlantic fetch to the west gives very clean and powerful wind.
