Le Sillon is Saint-Malo's iconic beach, regularly ranked among France's most beautiful. 3km of sand allow a large number of riders without tangling lines. Exceptional setting facing the ramparts of the corsair city. On windy Sundays, dozens of kitesurfers are on the water. Managed by Emeraude Kite association (emeraudekite.com), the local reference for regulations and safety.
Emeraude Kite (emeraudekite.com) — the local reference association, manages spot regulations on the Côte d'Émeraude and publishes a weekly safety bulletin. EVORIDE (evoride.fr) — itinerant kitesurf/wingfoil school, moves between Le Sillon and Baie de Lancieux depending on conditions.
Main meeting point: at the Surfschool / Thermes Marins. Freeride or waves depending on tide. Waves mainly on the east side (Rochebonne), chop on the west side. Specific summer regulations — check the Emeraude Kite app or emeraudekite.com before each session.
Intermediate
Open all year round
Rocky areas invisible at high tide — exposed at low tide, vigilance required as danger zones shift. Historic wooden breakwater posts dangerous at high tide — invisible traps. Beach narrows significantly at high tide (even small coefficients): riders end up close to breakwaters, seawall and tourists. Significant co-use: long-distance swimmers, surfers, windsurfers, sand yachts, walkers, bathers — kite not priority. Specific summer regulations (see emeraudekite.com). Not recommended for beginners.
Works from west to north-east. Depending on wind direction, riders move toward Fort National (west wind) or toward Plage du Pont (less disrupted wind). Waves on the Rochebonne side (from Surfschool east) or chop depending on tide. Wind sometimes disrupted by the seawall and ramparts at high tide.
