Lac de Lacanau - Lacanau-Ville is a FFVL-approved kitesurf spot on Lac de Lacanau (Gironde), a freshwater lake inland from the Lacanau-Océan surf beach. Practice is regulated by prefectural order with designated kite and teaching zones marked by yellow buoys.
SW wind (autumn) is ideal. W and NW winds are gusty. N wind is disturbed near shore but can be strong offshore. Beware of pine trees causing wind turbulence at launch — many kites have been lost in them. Avoid the alios reef underwater which can cause injury. Windsurfers, swimmers in summer, and duck hunting (tonne) from August to February share the lake. Navigate north of the beach for steadier wind. Access via "Halte Nautique" in Lacanau-Ville centre.
