Sainte-Evette beach, on the commune of Esquibien at the entrance to Audierne, is the main kitesurf spot on the northern side of the Baie d'Audierne. Wide west-facing sandy beach with direct Atlantic fetch, well exposed to wind. A quieter and less busy alternative to Penhors or La Torche, ideal for shoulder-season sessions.
The Audierne marina and the Goyen river channel mark the northern boundary — do not approach the harbour entrance channel. Rip currents (baïnes) to monitor.
Access from Audierne centre direction Esquibien / Sainte-Evette. Sainte-Evette beach car park. Launch and landing on the beach only — forbidden from car parks and protected natural areas.
In summer: respect marked bathing zones. Do not approach the Audierne harbour channel (north of spot).
Sandy beach break. Waves from 0.3m to 2m depending on swell. Sandy bottom. Rideable at all tides. At low tide, wide beach and gentler conditions. At high tide, more pronounced shorebreak.
Beware of the Audierne harbour entrance channel to the north — strong currents, keep clear. Rip currents (baïnes) possible — inspect the beach before riding.
Intermediate
Open all year round
Free car park at Sainte-Evette beach, accessible from Audierne / Esquibien. Toilets and showers in season. Restaurant/crêperie nearby.
Audierne harbour entrance channel to the north — strong currents and boat traffic. Must stay clear at all times.
Rip currents (baïnes) present in heavy swell. Never ride alone. Wetsuit required year-round.
West-facing beach — exposed to all winds from N to SW. The NW thermal of the Baie d'Audierne is reliable from May to September, building in the afternoon to 12–20 knots. Wind tends to be more regular and less turbulent than at La Torche, without the headland acceleration effect.
Favourable winds: NW, N (side-onshore starboard), SW, W, WSW (onshore to side-onshore). N/NE slightly cross. SE not recommended (offshore).
