Overview

Figari Bay is a stunning kite spot on Corsica's southwest coast between Bonifacio and Sartène. The bay is bordered by pink granite rocks and dominated by a Genoese tower — a postcard setting.

A small island in the center creates a flat zone. The bay offers a gentle progression: flat inside, increasingly choppy toward open water. The spot works mainly with thermal and synoptic winds from SW to NW.

Important: Kites are banned in July-August (municipal decree after a past accident). The area is reserved for windsurfers during peak season. Out of season, kites are tolerated.

Separate zones: kite spot toward the south (Saline), windsurf/wingfoil zone to the north of the parking area. Swimmers use the first beach.

On the national road 196 going from Bonifacio to Sartène, in the descent towards Pianotolli, after the intersection to Figari, take the next intersection to the left with the Eole Figari school sign. Follow the school signs for a long time. Paved road then unpaved path. Go to the last parking lot towards the southwest. See map on http://www.eolefigari.com/fr/ecole-kite-00.html Pedestrian access to the spot from the parking lot. Go directly by going around the reed screens to the southwest of the parking lot. Alternative solution via path with sign "Saline Sotanne"

Large parking area after 10 minutes on a dirt track (unpaved road)
At the end of the parking lot, take the path on foot for 5 minutes (southwest direction).

Wind specificities
Thermal or synoptic wind from SW to NW. The bay funnels the wind nicely. Flat inside, increasingly choppy toward open water. Best conditions with established winds — don't go when wind is borderline.

Hazards
Some submerged granite blocks on both sides in the first 100 meters. The bay is flat inside but gets choppier toward the open sea. Kites are NOT welcome in July-August — the area is reserved for windsurfers following a municipal decree after a past accident. Out of season, kites are tolerated.
