Ryton Bay is a kitesurfing spot located on Lake Coleridge, an alpine lake at 507 metres altitude in the foothills of the Southern Alps in Canterbury. The lake is surrounded by mountains and offers an impressive natural setting. The prevailing wind is the Nor'wester, channelled by the mountain valleys and capable of reaching considerable force. Winds are often gusty due to the surrounding terrain. The water is cold year-round. The lake is large enough to develop chop in strong wind. No tides. Spot for advanced riders due to gusty winds and cold water.
