Te Hai is a kitesurfing spot located on Lake Wanaka, one of the most beautiful alpine lakes in the Otago region, at 278 metres altitude. The lake is surrounded by spectacular mountains and offers a breathtaking setting for kitesurfing. The prevailing winds are the Nor'wester (a north-west foehn wind) which descends from the mountains with power, and south winds. Winds can be very gusty due to the surrounding mountainous terrain. The lake is large and develops significant chop in strong wind. The water is cold year-round. No tides. Spot for intermediate to advanced riders.
