Ferrymead is a kitesurf spot located in the Avon-Heathcote Estuary, in Christchurch. This sheltered water area offers ideal conditions for learning and progression in kitesurfing, with shallow waters and protection from ocean swell. The Canterbury Nor'wester (NE) is the dominant wind, channeled by the estuary valley. South winds also work. The estuary is strongly affected by tides, with large areas exposed at low tide. It is advisable to ride around the rising mid-tide. Perfect spot for beginners thanks to the flat and shallow water.
