Orewa Beach is one of the most renowned kitesurf spots in the Auckland region, located just 30 minutes north of the city center. This magnificent 4-kilometer golden sand beach offers an ideal playground for kitesurfers of all levels, with enough space to ride comfortably. The beach faces east, towards the Hauraki Gulf, which protects it from powerful ocean swells while offering regular wind conditions. The dominant winds blow from the northeast and east-northeast, creating optimal kitesurfing conditions. Each year, around January, powerful east winds accompany the Pacific cyclone season. The best season for riding runs from April to October, when winds are most consistent, peaking in spring (September-November). You can ride at all tides, but low tide is preferable as it reveals vast flat sand areas. Orewa's waters are known for their cleanliness and pleasant temperature, ranging between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius depending on the season. The water area offers relatively flat conditions, ideal for beginners and wingfoil riders. The beach has accessible parking, showers and amenities nearby. Several kitesurf schools operate in the area, making Orewa an excellent starting point for learning. The town of Orewa itself offers many restaurants, cafes and shops along its promenade. The surroundings allow you to discover the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, Shakespear Regional Park and the neighboring beaches of the Hibiscus Coast.
