Greenpark Huts is a kitesurf spot located on the north shore of Lake Ellesmere (Te Waihora), the largest coastal lake in Canterbury. This vast shallow water body is one of the most popular spots in the region for flat water kitesurfing. Lake Ellesmere is famous for its reliable wind conditions, with the Canterbury Nor'wester (NE) as the dominant wind, blowing regularly between 20 and 35 knots. Southwest winds are also frequent. The water is shallow (rarely more than 2 meters), making this spot very safe for beginners. The bottom is muddy in places. No tides on this coastal lake, but water levels vary with the seasons.
