Fred Howard Park is an excellent kitesurfing spot located in Tarpon Springs, north of Clearwater. This park offers a causeway extending west into the Gulf of Mexico, with shallow turquoise waters on both sides. The white sandy bottom and shallow depth make it an ideal spot for beginners and kite schools. In westerly winds (onshore), conditions are perfectly flat water. The park is well equipped with parking, sandy beach and facilities. Tarpon Springs is known for its Greek community and seafood restaurants.
The water body is very shallow with a white sandy bottom. Depth rarely exceeds 3 feet, allowing standing everywhere. In west to northwest winds, conditions are perfectly flat. The water is warm and crystal clear. Sandbars offshore create protected flat water areas. Ideal for foiling thanks to ultra-flat conditions. The riding space extends into the gulf.
Beginner
Open all year round
Watch for stingrays in the sand (stingray shuffle). At low tide, some areas become too shallow. The park closes at a set time — plan time to pack up. Tidal currents possible between sandbars. In easterly winds, conditions are offshore toward the gulf — do not ride.
