Figure 8 Island is a private and exclusive barrier island between Topsail Island and Wrightsville Beach. Access to the island itself is restricted to residents, but kitesurfing is practiced on sandbars and beaches accessible by water from adjacent public areas. Inlets on each side of the island (Rich Inlet to the north, Mason Inlet to the south) create dynamic sandbars. Wave conditions are good with southeast Atlantic exposure. The spot is intermediate due to inlet currents.

Ocean waves with SE to NE swells. Inlets create dynamic sandbars offering interesting wave conditions. Variable shore break. Sandy bottom. Significant tidal currents around the inlets. Water access from public areas — requires riding to the sandbars.
Powerful tidal currents around Rich Inlet and Mason Inlet — extreme caution. Private island — respect properties and access restrictions. Rip currents. Stingrays. Jellyfish in summer. Sharks possible in inlet areas. Afternoon thunderstorms possible in summer.
