Big Sandy Reservoir is a kitesurf spot on an isolated reservoir at 2,058m elevation in southwestern Wyoming, near Farson. Located in the Green River basin at the foot of the Wind River Range, this lake offers consistent southwest winds and a spectacular desert plain setting. Very uncrowded. Access via gravel road. Season from June to September. Very limited services in the area.
Cold high-altitude freshwater. Water temperature from 0°C in winter (frozen) to 19°C in summer. Sandy to muddy bottom. Very variable lake level depending on irrigation — can be very low in late summer. Moderate chop. Full 4/3 wetsuit minimum. Elevation 2,058m.

Extreme isolation: no rescue services, no cell coverage. High elevation (2,058m): rapid dehydration. Violent thunderstorms with lightning in summer. Very variable lake level — dangerous shallows. Powerful winds can exceed 40 knots. Hypothermia possible. Pronghorn antelope and mule deer on roads.
