Overview

Watchorn Provincial Park is a provincial park on the west shore of Lake Manitoba, between the Steep Rock area to the north and the southern part of the lake. The park offers a sandy beach with eastern exposure on Lake Manitoba and its significant fetch. Provincial park facilities (parking, restrooms, picnic area) provide easy access to the spot. Lake Manitoba, the province's second largest lake, offers consistent sailing conditions in summer with its characteristic chop.

Shallow Lake Manitoba (average depth 7 m) with eastern exposure. Over 40 km fetch in east winds. Short, steep chop typical of large shallow lakes. Sandy bottom near shore, becoming muddy further out. Freshwater warming relatively quickly in summer.

Hazards

Violent and sudden prairie thunderstorms in summer. Lake Manitoba can become rough very quickly. Cold water in spring and fall. Muddy bottom offshore. Respect provincial park regulations.
