Laurentia Beach is located on the south shore of Lake Manitoba, the province's second largest lake (4,624 km²). This spot offers immense northerly fetch for the prevailing north and northwest winds. Lake Manitoba is a shallow prairie lake (average depth only 7 m) that generates characteristic short, steep chop. The sandy beach is spacious and allows comfortable launching. Accessible from Winnipeg in about 1.5 hours.

Violent and rapid prairie thunderstorms in summer. Lake Manitoba can become very rough quickly due to its shallow depth. Cold water in spring and fall. Muddy bottom offshore that can trap feet. Algae in late summer.
