Overview

Newcastle Beach Park is a kitesurfing spot on the southeast shore of Lake Washington, in the city of Bellevue, Washington. This municipal park offers lake access in a lush residential setting. Lake Washington is a vast freshwater body surrounded by the cities of Seattle, Bellevue, and Kirkland. Southerly thermal winds are regular in summer. The park features a sandy beach, green spaces, and family facilities.

On the water

Fresh water from Lake Washington, temperate in summer (16-22°C). Shorty or 3/2 wetsuit in summer, 4/3 in spring and fall. Flat water without waves. Sandy and muddy bottom, shallow near shore. Southerly thermal winds at 10-18 knots in summer. The lake offers spacious riding area.

Hazards

Dense boat traffic on Lake Washington: recreational boats, sailboats, kayaks, and seaplanes. Swimming area very busy in summer: watch for swimmers and children. Seaplane landing paths to avoid. Winds sometimes irregular in the urban setting. Cold water in spring and fall. Respect park rules and designated zones.
