Hjerting is a spot in the Wadden Sea (Vadehavet), north of Esbjerg, on the southwest coast of Jutland. The spot is strongly tide-dependent — unrideable at low tide, ideal at incoming or high tide. Ho Bay (Ho Bugt) offers lagoon-like conditions in shallow water with shifting sandbanks. Kitesurfing is only allowed from March 1 to September 30 (Wadden Sea National Park regulations).
Shallow Wadden Sea waters. Sandy bottom with shells and shifting sandbanks. Flat lagoon-like conditions in moderate wind at high tide, with waist-deep water. Chop and 1-2 m waves possible at the outer edges of the bay. Wetsuit required year-round.

Extreme tides: the spot is unrideable at low tide. Always check tide tables for Esbjerg. Risk of stranding on sandbanks or being caught by incoming tide. Shells on the bottom and beach — booties strongly recommended. Breakwater/mole present, stay clear. Maritime traffic near Esbjerg harbour. Strong tidal currents in channels. Kitesurfing only allowed from March 1 to September 30.
