Maurach is a kitesurf spot on the southern shore of Achensee, Tyrol's largest lake. The lake benefits from a very regular northerly thermal wind in summer, typically picking up around noon. Achensee is nestled between the Karwendel and Rofan mountain ranges, which channel the wind along the lake's north-south axis. The water is deep and cold, the bottom drops off quickly. The Maurach spot offers easy launch from a pebble beach.
