Playa de Las Américas is a wave spot for expert riders only on the southwest coast of Tenerife. This bustling tourist hub works with westerly wind, offering a completely different experience from the NE trade wind spots around El Médano.
When it works, Las Américas offers excellent waves breaking near Playa del Duque. However, the launch/landing zone is extremely small with hard obstacles directly downwind, the shorebreak can be dangerous, the sea bottom is rocky, and currents are strong.
This is not a spot to discover kiting. Only experienced riders who know exactly what they're doing should attempt it. Any mistake near shore can be dangerous.

EXPERT ONLY. Extremely small launch/landing zone with hard obstacles downwind. Dangerous shorebreak when waves are big. Rocky sea bottom everywhere. Very strong currents. Any mistake near shore can be fatal for equipment and rider.
Works with westerly wind (W) — relatively rare compared to the dominant NE trades. When it blows, 15–25 knots. This is the spot to go when El Médano gets SW wind.
