Starting next week, Let's Kite is moving mostly to a paid model. Live weather stations — the heart of the site — will be reserved for Premium members. Here's everything you need to know.
Let's Kite is a solo project I've been building for 7 years. Behind the screen, it's me — Fred — a rider for 25 years, passionate about kite, snowkite, and everything that glides with the wind.
Right now, a normal week on Let's Kite means around 20 hours of my time: answering emails, debugging, maintaining the server, developing new features. And despite all the preparation in the world, almost every week an API — the system that pulls weather data from external sources — breaks and needs attention.
I've reached a point where I can no longer dedicate time to projects that aren't sustainable. The reality is that without support, the site will gradually fade away. This change is what allows Let's Kite to keep existing — and to grow.

No more page reloads. Click on a station to see its full readings — right there, instantly, without leaving the screen.
Real-time data and forecasts are now overlaid on the same graph. A single glance to see what's happening now and what's coming in the next few hours.
Set a threshold — wind speed, direction, temperature — and receive an alert by email or Telegram as soon as the station exceeds it. No more missed conditions.
I changed strategy: the 12,000 spots have been populated with the help of AI — wind orientations, general conditions, spot type. It's not perfect yet, but it's a solid foundation. And most importantly, anyone can now contribute directly via a dedicated button. I'm really counting on the community to enrich these pages.
Premium members can see active riders on the map with their track from the last 30 minutes — a quick glance to know if people are riding right now. Riders can also send a weather report from the field, visible to the whole community on the map.
This is just the beginning. Let's Kite keeps evolving, and Premium members will be the first to benefit.
If you use Let's Kite regularly, thank you for supporting the project. It's what allows me to keep developing and improving the platform.
